Larry Jacobson, author of “The Boy Behind the Gate” should be an inspiration to all aspiring authors. The traditional way of getting your book out there was to write your book, send in the manuscript to various book publishers, tack all the rejection letters on the wall, keep sending your manuscript, hope to win some awards and accolades, post more rejection letters on your wall, send more manuscripts, maybe (hopefully) finally get picked up and be assigned an agent, go through the editing, rewriting, resubmitting process, and finally see your book in print on the shelves of bookstores. Then you begin your book signing tours. And hope your book sells so your publishing company doesn’t have to buy them back (ouch).
Jacobson did it a little differently! After getting out of the corporate world he bought a sail boat and sailed around the world for six years. 40,000 miles later he wrote the book, “The Boy Behind the Gate.” Deciding to self-publish, Jacobson’s book has become a best seller on Amazon.
