 SHERRI LYNDSEY
2021 AGC Colorado Chair
Q&A :
 SHERRI LYNDSEY
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I describe myself as passionate about my work, in love with my family and dedicated to spreading joy to others. I grew up in Colorado Springs in a large family. After attending college on the east coast, I worked in several different industries and spent my free time travelling the world. I moved back to Colorado Springs where my husband and I are near our families and happy to call home.
I started my career in the building industry 10 years ago at Concepts in Millwork in a mid-level sales role. Over the years I consistently took on greater responsibility and advanced to my current position. I have always enjoyed working with Concepts’ customers and serving with many of them on AGC committees.
Q. Tell us about your involvement with AGC Colorado.
My first AGC event was a Breakfast with the Board event where I connected with a broad base of industry members. I was impressed with how quickly I established professional relationships with other members.
Concepts saw the value in relationship building and serving our community and immediately joined AGC. We were encouraged to get involved and I have served as a member, Co-Chair and Chair on many committees. One of the positions I held was Co-Chair for the Specialty Contractors Council. The peer interactions between Council members combined with the Council’s dedication to the industry stood out to me, and this is one of the reasons I continue to serve.
Q. What have been some of your highlights or memorable moments with AGC/C?
Right after joining AGC, I got involved with the Southern CO Committee and for many years served as Chair. I am especially proud to be a part of the team who has worked for several years to increase AGC involvement and participation in Southern CO. It’s exciting that AGC opened an office in Colorado Springs and established a local Steering Committee whose members support both our local needs and the AGC goals.
Years ago AGC recognized the need for inclusion in our industry and formed a Diversity Committee. Forming the Committee and establishing goals is one step AGC is taking to visibly show our support for a harassment free industry which welcomes small businesses, women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. I am delighted to be one example of how diversity is beginning to show up in AGC.
Q. What would you say are some of the major challenges facing AGC/C members?
The Covid-19 pandemic has created unique challenges such as keeping construction open and hosting networking and training events within the constantly changing state protocol guidelines. I admire how AGC members and staff responded by coming together as a unified force to protect the health and well-being of employees at job sites as well as moving training and education to virtual formats including some with live instructors. As the pandemic continues to impact us and we all get “Zoom fatigue,” AGC is working on a strategic plan that will continue to adapt to the evolving needs of the industry as the future unfolds.
Q. As AGC Chair, what are some of your goals for AGC/C?
AGC’s goals for 2021 are Advocacy, Workforce Development, Member Retention, and new this year is Culture of Care. Along with supporting our 2021 goals, my goals are to devote effort to Member Retention and Culture of Care by sharing my story with others to explain how being an AGC member and actively participating in AGC events makes a difference. As the second woman to fill the AGC Chair role, I am setting an example of diverse representation in the building industry. I hope to inspire other women to choose this path as well.
Q. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Our AGC Colorado Association is a leader in CO as well as nationally and I am honored to serve on the AGC Board of Directors and Management Committee as your Chair for 2021.
