NUCA (National Utility Contractors Association) of Colorado Update
by Christine Barnes
Christine Barnes, Executive Director, NUCA of Colorado
NUCA of Colorado represents over 80 member companies in the utility construction industry which equates to several thousand members in the state of Colorado. It is with this in mind that NUCA of Colorado represented our member constituents at the annual Washington D.C. Summit on May 15-17.
NUCA scheduled this annual event during the Celebration of Construction which took place on the National Mall May 14-16; NUCA had a booth at the event. NUCA members were on hand educating attendees on the variety of career paths in the underground utility construction industry. Over 16,000 were in attendance at this three-day event.
At the hands-on display of equipment and technology, demonstrations on the latest construction methods,
data management, materials, tools, and workers carried on the tradition of improving safety and environmental stewardship, while building the infrastructure that makes today's society possible.
Our Colorado delegation attended the Summit with hill visits on Wednesday, May 17th. We met with six of our Congressmen/women’s offices and both of our Senator’s offices. The focus of our meetings implemented the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, workforce development and labor issues, reforming Private Activity Bonds, and lead pipe replacement. NUCA of Colorado wants to be sure that our representatives know that
we can be a resource for the industry. This was also a terrific opportunity to create relationships with your representatives.
On May 24th we held our Networking Mixer at Pindustry and partnered with our friends at RMNASTT (North American Society of Trenchless Technology – Rocky Mountain) Attendees participated in a fun filled night of games, cocktails, food and fellowship among industry peers.
Registration and sponsorship are open and available for our Annual Clay Shoot on Thursday, June 15th at Kiowa Creek. This is our legislative fundraiser and the only one that we have throughout the year. The funds raised from this event support our advocacy in the industry. NUCA of Colorado works to be a resource for infrastructure related legislation and any bills that influence business in Colorado. Register your squad of four and consider sponsorship. We hope to see you there.
June is Trench Safety Month, and the third week of June is designated as Trench Safety Stand Down (TSSD) Week. TSSD Week is a series of organized events held by NUCA and industry members to emphasize the message of safety around jobsite trenches and excavations. TSSD Week is used by industry safety professionals to hold safety training, educational seminars, live demonstrations of trench rescues, and other activities to reinforce the message of trench safety. NUCA of Colorado will be holding an expo for Trench Safety with our three shoring members, National Trench Safety, Sunbelt Rentals and United Rentals on Wednesday, June 21st. Save the Date! Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Details for all the meetings, events and trainings mentioned are available on our website www. nucacolorado.com We hope to see you there!
