Forty years ago, Bob Silcott started Concepts in Millwork in Colorado Springs as a 3-man shop, manufacturing countertops for their only customer. Today, the 36,000 square foot facility employs nearly 100 and features state of the art equipment run by both long term journeymen and enthusiastic interns. Concepts in Millwork now fabricates, delivers and installs commercial architectural millwork projects up and down the Front Range.
“It has evolved over the 40 years,” says President, Scott Robinson. “The types of projects and their size and volume have increased considerably, but who we are and what we’re about hasn’t changed. The focus has remained the same; quality and the right personnel to ensure it.”
Bob has since stepped down from the day to day workings. The day to day operations are overseen by his daughter and CFO, Stephanie Robinson who is celebrating 36 years and his son-in-law and President Scott Robinson who is celebrating 30 years. They still adhere to his philosophy, "Employees are the key to success." Concepts aspires to create a familial, rewarding work environment. With more than 25 employees who have been with the company over 10 years its clear how deeply ingrained and celebrated the idea of family is to them. Concepts made a pledge to the AGC Culture of Care and is working to encourage diversity and inclusion.
Long term, working relationships with their customers and vendors are the backbone of the company, which means keeping the focus on quality and service. Scott & Stephanie share the commitment: "We're definitely in it for the long-haul. We prefer to work with our customers on a recurring basis. We've always strived to ensure that we're working with the same customer for 10, 15, or 20 years down the road." This practice has helped Concepts maintain steady growth through its 40 years.
Relationship building also extends to the building community. Concepts partners with the MiLL National Training Center on a regular basis, meeting with students and taking on Interns year round. Concepts is also actively involved on the AGC Board of Directors. Concepts is proud to be celebrating the last 40 years and looks forward to the next 40+ years ahead!
