Rocky Mountain MCA Applauds ACCE Decision to Accredit Apprenticeship Centers for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Trades
Davia: It has been a pleasure to collaborate with ACCE through this process and create and improve educational and career opportunities.
In a landmark decision this week, the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) voted to begin accrediting apprentice education centers. By adding
this new level of accreditation service, ACCE supports construction education from end to end for the industry.
“Rocky Mountain MCA and the entire construction community applauds ACCE and their decision to accredit construction apprenticeships, starting with ours. This is not only great news for the industry but also for women and men and across the region and we’re proud to have played a role,” said Rocky Mountain MCA CEO Dave Davia.
“The primary goal of ACCE is to promote and improve construction education,” said Steve Nellis, ACCE President and CEO. “Working together with Rocky Mountain MCA,
I am proud to announce a process to ensure quality and consistency in construction workforce education, which includes these apprenticeship programs for the Rocky Mountain MCA. We are the construction education accreditation association and our industry constituents have been asking for our support of skilled workforce development and certification. The addition of this apprentice program is the first step in our efforts to support all levels of construction education and training.”
“It has been a pleasure to collaborate with ACCE through this process and create and improve educational and career opportunities for students interested in building skylines across the West,” continued Davia.
Over the last 130 years, Rocky Mountain MCA has established a long tradition of developing and fostering education opportunities and apprentice programs. “Over the past year, we have embarked on an aggressive effort to improve our education programs and further enhance
the quality of education to meet the needs of a robust and growing industry as well as the needs of tomorrow’s workforce,” continued Davia. “Technology has and
will continue to disrupt construction and best-in-class apprenticeship programs put this education opportunity on even ground with a traditional four-year institution for students.”
As part of that effort, Davia announced the addition of Dr. Mostafa Khattab to the Rocky Mountain MCA team. Dr. Khattab has 30 years of experience as a teacher, researcher, and consultant in construction education. Most recently, he served as professor and head of Colorado State University’s Construction Management Department (CM).
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone as experienced and respected leading our efforts and
this strategic disruption for the construction industry,” continued Davia. “Dr. Khattab has played an instrumental role in building our program and establishing the accreditation process. We look forward to many more exciting announcements under his leadership.”
ACCE is a leading global advocate of quality construction education and to promote, support, and accredit all levels of quality construction education programs.
Rocky Mountain MCA is an organization dedicated to representing and promoting the interests of the general welfare of the mechanical, plumbing and HVAC industry in Colorado, Wyoming, Western Nebraska and Western South Dakota. Rocky Mountain MCA engages in economic development, workforce training, construction relations and legislative advocacy with one single goal in mind:
to create jobs and strengthen the construction industry for the hardworking men and women who through their work define our city’s skylines and are part of the fabric of the business community in Colorado.
