Vail Health East Wing Addition Advances Toward Completion
The Vail Health is looking forward to the completion
of their new 360,000-SF East Wing Addition to the Vail Health Hospital, presently anticipated in the fall of 2020. The new addition is meant to replace and improve
a large suite of the hospital’s services including the existing emergency department, imaging department, and orthopedic/physical therapy services, while also expanding the facility’s capacity to meet outpatient surgical needs. Other facility improvements include
five stories of new, integrated underground parking, a rooftop helistop, two ambulance garages, an enclosed loading dock, and a new central utility plant.
Design services were led by Davis Partnership Architects with GE Johnson Construction in charge of construction. The design for the East Wing

takes advantage of the site’s spectacular mountain surroundings through the incorporation of a grand lobby and adjacent outdoor terrace. Warm, inviting public areas, easily navigated wayfinding, and state- of-the-art clinical spaces all embrace Vail Health’s commitment to a positive patient and visitor experience.
Both GE Johnson and Davis Partnership worked closely with Vail Health on a series of enabling projects to coordinate relocating the existing East Wing occupants to other facilities to make way for demolition. The project also involved meeting the Town of Vail’s approval process and working with area neighbors to understand and mitigate community concerns.
