moved all of IECRM’s 2100 electrical apprentices into live online classes led by 75 fully trained licensed electrician instructors. While it was not without challenges including internet access, inconsistent wifi signals in remote areas, and computer browsers that needed updating, by all accounts it was a seamless transition.
Not enough positive can be said about the resilience, the mindset, the adaptability, the support and the teamwork of the instructors, apprentices, staff and electrical contractors that came together to make this happen. The second half of the Spring semester completed on time with a record 170 graduates culminating in a virtual graduation that was broadcast via YouTube and viewed live as far away as Uganda. Commencement is an exciting day for these students who have worked full-time jobs and gone to school over the last four years to reach this goal and preparing to become licensed electricians. And it’s only the beginning of the journey in a lifelong learning, sustainable, living wage professional occupation.
IECRM will continue to provide online education for
all apprenticeship classes this fall as we work with ever-changing guidelines for in-class sessions offering innovative, interactive, in person, socially distanced, hands-on labs in the process. And, in response to the recent passage of SB120, IECRM is now offering a “Fast Track” Apprenticeship Class focused on the apprentice with more than 6000 hours of on the job training that has yet to receive Apprenticeship Training. In the meantime, enrollment is strong, electricians are still essential, there remains a shortage of skilled trade workers, and we are dedicated to training the next generation electrician. Becoming a licensed electrician doesn’t end with completion of apprentice education, every 3 years
when the NEC electrical code cycle changes, all licensed Colorado electricians must complete 24 hours of continuing education units (CEUs). The September deadline for Colorado electrical license renewal is approaching and contractors still have time to fulfill Colorado, Wyoming, or New Mexico electrician license renewal requirements by taking 24 hours of electrical CEU classes now. A minimum of 4 hours of NEC Changes is required and a maximum of 4 hours of Safety Training will qualify. Click here to view all upcoming in-person and online CEU Classes. Licenses are required to be renewed every three years coinciding with the release of
the updated National Electrical Code. At this time, NEC 2020 is effective for the State of Colorado in August and the license renewal deadline in Colorado remains September 30, 2020. Click here for more information.
Throughout the pandemic, IECRM also provided weekly Member Forums to bring valuable and relevant information regarding the construction industry and share best practices to support the general business decisions contractors faced during the initial weeks of the pandemic. The weekly IECRM Member Forums have covered a variety of topics to keep contractors and industry partners aware of the rapidly changing economic data, safety guidance, financial assistance, labor and employment, legal and regulatory impacts, and executive orders. You can read the Forum recaps here as well listen to the recordings.
