Architecture is a team sport, drawing on the expertise of a wide-ranging community of material suppliers, product representatives, and design-build leaders from many segments. This spotlight shines a light on a few Front Range building material suppliers and service providers serving both commercial and residential markets with a steadfast commitment to well-informed customer satisfaction.
ARCIS Precast Panels, Encon United
Lightweight and durable,
ARCIS precast panels present an intriguing innovation in architectural rainscreen technology. ARICS is an ultra-thin architectural cladding that incorporates braided stainless-steel cables in a vertical/horizontal mesh to produce prestressed precast concrete panels ranging from just 3⁄4 of
an inch up to two inches thick. Weighing as little as 13 pounds per square foot, ARCIS panels offer
the strength of concrete, the architectural customization of precast, and the future flexibility of stick-built construction in a single-source exterior cladding material that may be caulked or uncaulked. The dual-direction prestress integration significantly increases the long- term integrity of each panel in any climate while high-performance concrete provides strength in excess of 5,000 psi (35 MPal).
Namaste Solar: Behind the Meter Solar Systems
Formed in 2005, Namaste Solar began as a residential solar company and
now provides turn-key solutions spanning all building types and markets. Namaste self-performs design, development, installation, operations, and maintenance of high- performance solar arrays through an employee- owner workforce, which presently numbers 170.
Behind the Meter Solar refers specifically to systems designed and installed with the intention of providing commercial buildings with onsite power supply to reduce OpEx. There are several key 28 | Colorado Construction & Design
Panels are custom-manufactured to accommodate a wide range of finishing techniques including exposed aggregate polishing, sandblasting, and acid etching combined with small-relief form liners to articulate reveals, insets, and integral colors to contextualize design.
Manufactured by Encon United Companies, ARCIS technology is available through select producer members of the AltusGroup,
an international collaboration of precast manufacturers. Panel thickness, layout, corners, geometry, size, thickness, and substructure support are all determined through dedicated preconstruction support and locally manufactured by Encon Colorado in Denver and Stresscon in Colorado Springs. Parent company, Encon United, employs more than 700 professionals nationally with a brand-wide commitment to Performance Beyond Promise from facilities in Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, and Washington.
considerations owners should be aware of when considering rooftop solar. Solar systems add between 3- and 10- pounds per square foot deadload, depending on whether the array is fully attached or ballasted. Each roof’s useable solar square footage depends on required setbacks, parapet wall heights, row-to-row separations to avoid self-shading systems, and wind speed exposure but comes in at about seven to 10 watts per square foot of roof.
There are presently four different financial incentives tied to solar systems in Denver – a tax credit, depreciation tax deductions, utility bill reductions, and an incentive from Xcel Energy, which pays $0.0375 per kilowatt-hour produced monthly for 20 years. Ever-increasing panel efficiencies currently result in approximately
