“Witnessing the vision of the stadium become a reality is the result of
a tremendous effort by everyone involved,” said Nick Ragain, President of the Switchbacks.
“The USL has 34 soccer clubs and eight million viewers who will see this high-caliber stadium and equate it to excellence.
We’re excited to be creating a very special venue that will provide Colorado Springs with another great source of community pride.”
In addition to soccer matches, the stadium is also looking forward to hosting Olympic related events, tournaments, camps and live music concerts that will create a synergy between the US Olympic
and Paralympic Museum, outdoor stadium, indoor arena, and the U.S. Olympic Training Center, setting Colorado Springs apart nationally as a destination for sporting events.
“The stadium will become a landmark for the city of Colorado Springs
while contributing to the positive growth of the surrounding area,”
said Chuck Wittleder, Technical Director and Senior Associate with Perkins & Will. “The stadium has been designed to provide a very fan-friendly experience, featuring
a variety of grandstand seating options around the soccer pitch that will have excellent site lines to the action and provide for an intimate spectator experience. The facility will be able to accommodate a variety of events, in addition to Switchbacks soccer matches. It’s been a pleasure to work with the entire team on
this important addition to Colorado Springs. GEJCC is thrilled to be partnered with Switchbacks FC, Weidner Homes, Perkins & Will
and the entire team on this game changing project for the City of Colorado Springs.”
“This is a state of the art facility
that will provide the Switchbacks with a modern stadium matching
or surpassing other stadiums being built across the country,” said John McCorkle, Construction Executive with GE Johnson Construction Company, which also built the
nearby Olympic Museum. “There are a number of very special elements, including a turf field that meets the highest rating standards of FIFA, soccer’s governing body, a 24 foot high, 35 foot wide, 16 ton scoreboard, light stanchions and landscaping. There are more than 80 craftworkers on site, contributing their specialized skills to make Switchbacks Stadium a very special place.”
Work on the stadium began last December and is following an aggressive schedule to be ready on time for its opening next April.
