Education Project Round Up
Award-Winning Addition for Denver Public Schools, Slavens Elementary
The Slavens Elementary second story addition created four additional classrooms, an exterior stairwell, and a new playground. The school was originally built in 1957. The W.E. O’Neil construction team worked with LOA Architecture to accomplish functional and aesthetically pleasing upgrades to the school that integrated well with the other multiple additions that had been done to the school over the past 60 years.
The project won a Silver AGC ACE award for Construction Excellence. The award-winning project also came in under budget. The extra savings in combination with a grant received by the school were utilized to replace existing playground equipment adjacent to the addition that was not originally anticipated for the project.
