 Education Project Round Up
Yuma groundbreaking - The Neenan Company
The Neenan Company Begins Construction to Enhance Safety and Security of Yuma School District
Fort Collins-based design-build firm The Neenan Company will break ground on two separate projects for Yuma School District this month. Funded in part by a bond measure passed by voters last year, these projects will enhance building safety and security, while also modernizing school facilities.
The first phase of the High School project, located at 1000 South Albany Street in Yuma, will provide a practice and PE gymnasium and weight room. In the next phase of project work, which is slated to begin later this summer, Neenan will create a new wing to bring the high school’s Career
Technical Education (CTE) into the main high school building and provide new space for the school’s science and STEM programs. This phase of the project also includes significant
upgrades to the face of the building, with a more easily identifiable main entry and administrative area to increase safety and security measures for teachers, students and school staff. The second phase of the project involves a plan to reconfigure every classroom in the building with upgrades to all HVAC and electrical systems. Neenan’s design will also add collaborative spaces to support education programs.
Alongside improvements to the high school, The Neenan Company is also beginning site and building work at 500 South Elm Street, a facility that is home to Yuma’s pre-K – 8 students. Major improvements include the addition of
a bus loop to enhance safety for foot traffic at student drop-off points, as well as a remodel of classrooms and the kitchen area inside the middle school.
The project is slated to be delivered in winter 2022.
Pinnacle Charter School in Thornton Purchased 11.4 acres for New Athletic Facilities
Pinnacle Charter School in Thornton, Colorado has completed the purchase of 11.4 acres of land just west of I-25 & 84th Avenue, between the Appliance Factory at 321 W. 84th Avenue in Thornton, and the RTD Park & Ride at 8700 Grant Street. The school has purchased the property to develop new athletic facilities for the school, as well as mixed-use community property for all of Thornton.
Pinnacle has partnered with JHL Constructors and architecture firm, Hord Coplan Macht, to build out this vision and create a beautiful property that will be accessible and useable for residents all ages. Anser Advisory is acting as Owners’ Representative for
the project.
Pinnacle plans to begin construction later this summer, and the facility is planned to deliver in the spring of 2021.
The involvement of Hord Coplan Macht as the architect and landscape architect will also bring a unique aspect to the project, as the firm specializes in K-12 building and site design.
“We have a very experienced design and construction team with Hord Coplan Macht and JHL and are excited to be involved in the creative process with the Pinnacle team,” says Anser Advisory representative, Kurt Connolly. “The fieldhouse and turf field will be tremendous assets to the community and a feather in Pinnacle’s cap.”
The collaboration among all parties will continue throughout the project, and will incorporate community feedback, as well as the expertise of all involved.
