Summertime is Heating Up at AGC
by Jeff Barratt, CEO/President - AGC Colorado
As summer temperatures begin to rise in Colorado, the AGC event calendar begins to heat up as well!
The calendar kicked off with AGC’s Make the Connection: Reverse Tradeshow held on the Auraria Higher Education Campus (AHEC) with over 130 members registered. This event is curated exclusively for AGC’s small, minority, diverse, woman, emerging, and veteran-owned businesses to assist with strengthening relationships with AGC’s General Contractor group.
Designated booths were reserved for the following categories:
- Ten MWBE, DBE, SBE – Specialty or Subcontractor booths
- Four MWBE, DBE, SBE – Suppliers booths
- Two MWBE, DBE, SBE – General Contractor booths
- Two MWBE, DBE, SBE – Professional Associates/Service Provider booths
Comments from attendees and booth participants ranged from, “Participants who had an interest came to us. This is a significant change in dynamic.”, “The smaller scale allowed for deeper, more meaningful conversations, which we greatly appreciated.”, and “I thought it was a cool event and loved the format of being able to meet MWBE subs. Would love opportunities to meet more!” And there will be more opportunities, as the next Make the Connection event is Wednesday, November 6.
The next calendar event was AGC’s Annual golf tournament on June 10 hosted once again at Murphy Creek golf course located in east Aurora, Colorado. The course and weather were both spectacular, and I heard from many members that it was a great event – if only I had played better!
We had 236 golfers turn out for this event, and my personal highlight was the hole sponsored by Milwaukee Tool featuring the “Hole Hecklers”. I’m still chuckling over the ribbing of John, a team member in our foursome, and the Hecklers joking that “Jimmy Buffet called and wants his shirt back!” – and I must admit it was a ‘colorful’ Hawaiian shirt! Aside from the amazing networking opportunities, the event raised over $40k for the Construction Education Foundation (CEF). AGC will also host two more tournaments, one in Colorado Springs at Flying Horse Golf Club, and Lakota Links in New Castle, Colorado.
And finally, the next events are AGC’s General Contractor Summer Showcase Series. The showcase events key is to have specific people who buy out the jobs (Sr. PM, Pre-Con Director, etc.) at the GC booths and have the GC’s send out invites to Specialty Contractors and Supplier members through their Invitation to Bid system. These are awesome opportunities to network and build relationships, and I’m excited to attend them all this summer. Here are the locations for the remaining three of the four GC Summer Showcases:
- July 24 – Mile High Station in Denver
- August 23 – The Gallegos Mountain Yard in Glenwood Springs
- September 27 – Windsong Estate Event Center in Ft. Collins
So, as you can see, it’s shaping up to be a busy summer with opportunities to network and have a lot of fun in the process. I hope to see you all there, and in the meantime, I hope your summer is off to a great start!
