University of Denver’s Advantage Bond to Deliver Big

The University of Denver has embarked on a multi-project bond initiative known as The Denver Advantage, which will deliver new student-centric facilities in the form of a First-Year Residence Hall, a Community Commons, and the Pioneer Career Achievement Center. Being developed in support of the University’s long-range strategic plan called DU IMPACT 2025, the three-building program is necessitating close coordination between two independent general contractors building the improvements. Saunders Construction is delivering the First-Year Residence Hall and the new Community Commons projects in conjunction with a design team composed of Anderson Mason Dale Architects and Moore Ruble Yudell Architects and Planners. PCL Construction is building the Pioneer Career Achievement Center, designed by architects Lake Flato, which will be located directly across the main campus courtyard from the 500-bed First-year Residence Hall. Saunders Construction’s scope of work also includes demolishing the northern portion of the Driscoll North Student Center to make way for the new Community Commons while keeping the existing pedestrian bridge over Evans Avenue accessible and structurally secure.

The Community Commons will be built on the footprint of the removed portion of the Driscoll North Student Center located at the heart of the campus. Dining, meeting, gathering, classroom and other programmable spaces will foster an atmosphere of student connectivity and inclusion. The Pioneer Career Achievement Center will facilitate student career development and post-college preparedness.

Construction services on the three buildings will begin in the summer of 2018, with each of the three facilities expected to open independently in the fall
of 2020.
