Meg VanderLaan Retires from Encore Electric for New Chapter

Meg Vanderlaan Retires from Encore Electric and will share her marketing expertise through board leadership and service.

Encore Electric announces that Meg VanderLaan, Chief Marketing Officer, has retired from the organization. She held the title of Chief Marketing Officer for nine years and has provided expertise that helped shape the Encore Electric brand, transform internal communications, and establish community connections.

For more than 30 years, VanderLaan has been a strong voice in Colorado Marketing and Communications leadership. In addition to holding leadership roles for Gates Corporation, MWH Global (now part of Stantec), and Encore Electric, she has served on numerous boards, including the Downtown Denver Partnership, the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, and Gannon University.

VanderLaan, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania with a degree in communications and began her career working at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio.

After moving to Denver in 1991, she spent four years at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Colorado followed by a job with the Gates Corporation medical clinic. She moved into industrial and automotive marketing for the company, and held several positions at Gates Corporation, including Vice President of Corporate Public Relations and Worldwide Automotive Aftermarket Business Development, and Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs.

In 2009, VanderLaan took a new position in the engineering industry as the Vice President for Global Communications for MWH Global. She spent seven years at MWH and ended her work there as the Chief Communications Officer and Senior Vice President after the company’s success led to an acquisition by Stantec.

In her next career phase, VanderLaan is seeking to continue to work with organizations by sharing her marketing expertise through board leadership and service.

“It's not the end, rather, it's a new chapter of a deeply rewarding career,” said VanderLaan. “I feel blessed, for my family and the people I have worked with in my profession, my community, and on various boards. They have each taught me so much, and my career has been better because they were a part of it.

Kevin Villegas, Director of Marketing Communications, will be taking over VanderLaan’s duties as the head of the Marketing Communications team at Encore Electric.
