KL&A Supports Structural Renovation of Colorado Public Radio’s New Denver Headquarters

Work at 777 Grant Street includes structural modifications, steel construction and a complex foundation replacement.

KL&A Engineers and Builders is providing structural engineering and steel-construction services for Colorado Public Radio’s new headquarters at 777 Grant Street in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

CPR purchased the six-story, 72,000-square-foot building in 2023. The renovated facility will consolidate CPR’s Denver operations, including CPR News, Denverite, CPR Classical, Indie 102.3, Audio Innovations, podcast production and administrative offices.

Plans for the headquarters include broadcast and media rooms, offices, collaborative work areas and spaces accessible to the public. The facility is also planned to include areas for live interviews, musical performances, community events and meetings.

KL&A’s work includes structural modifications associated with a new internal stair and public forum. The firm’s structural engineering, construction-management and steel-detailing teams are also coordinating the replacement of an existing foundation beneath a column that carries loads from seven building levels.

During the foundation work, temporary shoring supports the existing column while its original concrete pier is removed. The replacement foundation consists of new micropiles connected by a reinforced-concrete pile cap. The sequence allows the permanent foundation to be reconstructed while the existing building remains supported.

The building was originally designed for IBM and constructed in 1959. It underwent a separate renovation in 2020 before CPR acquired the property.

Semple Brown is the project architect, Fransen Pittman is the general contractor, Artaic Group is CPR’s owner’s representative, and KL&A is providing structural engineering and steel-construction services.

Construction began in January 2026. The project schedule published by Fransen Pittman calls for a construction period of approximately 16 to 18 months.
