LOA Architecture Celebrates 40 Years of Design Excellence

Denver, CO LOA Architecture proudly marks its 40th anniversary this year, celebrating four decades of architectural innovation, design integrity, and a deep commitment to Colorado communities.

Luis O. Acosta Architects

Founded in June 1985 by Luis O. Acosta as Luis O. Acosta Architects, the firm quickly became known for delivering superior architecture, planning, and interior design services. In 2010, longtime colleague Timothy Habben assumed ownership and rebranded the firm as LOA Architecture. The updated name honored the firm's legacy, retaining the widely recognized acronym "LOA" while ushering in a new era of leadership and continued excellence.

At the time of transition, Habben had worked alongside Acosta for 15 years. Under his guidance, LOA Architecture has continued its dedication to client-focused design solutions with the same professional standards and collaborative approach that have defined the firm from the beginning.

LOA Architecture Project History

LOA’s portfolio spans a range of sectors, with a strong focus on educational and civic architecture. Among its signature achievements is the iconic 365-foot, single-span, two-level Passenger Bridge at Denver International Airport—connecting the Terminal to Concourse A. The firm has also designed numerous elementary, middle, and high schools for Denver Public Schools, Adams 12 Five Star Schools, Aurora Public Schools, Boulder Valley Schools, Cherry Creek School District, and Jefferson County Public Schools (JEFFCO).

“At LOA Architecture, we believe great design should do more than function — it should inspire,” said Timothy Habben, President of LOA Architecture. “Our vision is that every educational building we design makes a meaningful impact: that students feel encouraged to learn, parents feel confident their children are safe and comfortable, and teachers and staff enjoy a positive, supportive work environment.”

In higher education, LOA has provided full architectural design services for institutions including Colorado State University, the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Colorado Denver (Anschutz Medical Campus), and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

As one of the few remaining locally owned and operated architectural firms in the Denver area, LOA Architecture remains invested in the communities it serves. The firm’s 40-year legacy is a testament to enduring relationships, repeat clients, thoughtful design, and a passion for shaping environments that inspire and endure.
