GTC Breaks Ground on $40M Project for Springfield Schools
Baca County’s largest district to receive three new buildings, two major renovations.
GTC is pleased to announce kickoff of a project that will transform the Springfield School District.
The Town of Springfield is located in Baca County, the southeastern-most county in Colorado, and the District is the largest school district in Baca, serving over 300 students. The high school was originally built in 1908, with PreK through middle school following later, across a 23-acre site.
In 2020 Springfield School District was awarded a $40M BEST Grant from the State of Colorado. Working with the District, Diversified Consulting Solutions, and TreanorHL Architects, GTC’s project includes demo of most of the old buildings and construction of 63,000 sf of additions to a pre-existing building, including a two-story classroom wing, a new gymnasium complex, and an addition to the current administration space. Work also includes 19,000 sf of renovations, which in total will consolidate the District into a single, new PreK-12th grade building. The project will be phased over 24 months to allow the campus to remain operational throughout construction.
GTC is a commercial general contractor in Colorado, with a third of their volume coming from education projects. The firm recently completed two new buildings for Swallows Charter Academy in Pueblo West, Colorado: a 15,350 sf high school and a 43,500 sf K-8. The K-8 building was BEST Grant-funded, and the Swallows campus was occupied throughout construction.
